A Healthy Start for a Healthy School Year

January 1 may be the official start of the year, but for children, new classes, teachers and friends mark September as the unofficial beginning of a new year. The start of a school year is the perfect opportunity to introduce new, healthy habits that can carry kids through the school year and beyond.

If you’re in charge of packing lunches, you may not know that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) food pyramid is no more. In its place is the food plate, divided into quadrants according to types of food: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and diary.
